Each year I prepare a list of “The Ten Important World Tourism Issues” for the coming year.  Over the past six months I have been researching and discussing tourism issues for 2008. The following is a preliminary list, in rough priority order, for 2008.  As you interpret, are these the ten (10) most important issues, in the right order, or do others need to be added, dropped, or changed in priority?  I would appreciate your comments within the next two weeks.

THE TEN IMPORTANT WORLD TOURISM ISSUES FOR 2008

  1. Safety and Security in Tourism
  1. Best Practices for Managing Sustainable Tourism
  1. New Developments in e-commerce tools in Tourism
  1. Tourism Policy and Planning
  1. Tourism Education and Training
  1. Effect of Climate Change on Tourism
  1. Influence of the World’s Economy on Tourism
  1. Marketing Quality Tourism Products and Experiences
  1. Partnerships and Strategic Alliances in Tourism
  1. Impact of Natural Disasters and Health Concerns on Tourism

Some of these issues are researched and discussed in a new book Tourism Policy and Planning: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow published by Elsevier Ltd (2008); the direct link to review this book can be found at:
