Getting Academic Credit for the OSEA Training Programs

There are two ways you can obtain academic credit from the OSEA Programs.
· Participants can transfer OSEA Credits to their Home University or
· Participants can receive OSEA Credits directly on their home university transcript through what is often called Concurrent Enrollment or Direct Credit

Transferring OSEA Credit
OSEA courses are accredited by the Facultad de Ciencias Antropológicas of the UAdY, or Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, which provides each student with an official transcript. The UAdY is recognized throughout the US by universities and colleges, which facilitates transfer of your OSEA/UAdY credits.

The OSEA Student Information Packet has the information you need to show your advisors study abroad officers, and other university representatives to get pre-approval.

OSEA credits are based on actual contact hours and are equivalent on a 1-1 basis with semester based credits. Review the OSEA course equivalency chart for details.

Making the Process Easy
As part of the process of ensuring the transfer of your OSEA/UADY we strongly suggest that you speak directly with your undergraduate student advisor in anthropology and the registrar. Before meeting with them, prepare a brief set of documents that you can show them. We have prepared this in Word document format for you to download here and use. It is most convenient to get a pre-approval of the course content and program from your advisor.

On your application, we ask that you identify your undergraduate advisor or other professor with whom you have an established relation as a student who can help you in the process of having your credits transferred. By opening up a dialogue between OSEA, the student, this advisor, and your home institution, any questions about the transfer of your credits can be easily addressed and resolved before departure. It may even be possible to arrange for concurrent enrollment through your university's study abroad or international programs office.

Remember, OSEA’s advisors are always happy to advise on the proper transfer of the credits you will earn abroad.

Please check here for the current list of anthropology departments and universities or colleges that have granted OSEA courses pre-approval for credit transfer and that are direct credit partners.
