Community Tourism, Marketing & Development”:

              IU Service Learning in Yucatán

 
6 week course Summer Session, 6 credits

Combined Undergraduate & Graduate course

 


This is a service learning and field study course in which students live and work among Indigenous Maya communities located near the UNESCO World Heritage site and 7 Wonder of the World, Chichén Itzá, Yucatán, México and hours from the Maya Riviera. Ideal for students in: International Studies, Environmental Studies, Heritage, Social Media Marketing, Anthropology, Public Policy, Non-Profit & Non-Governmental Organizations, Indigenous Rights, Tourism, Spanish, Latin American Studies, Sustainability, Design

 


 

Undergraduate Eligibility & Requirements

  • Students on disciplinary or academic probation are not eligible for participation.
  • IU students and IU System Students from any eligible campus.
  • Students with any major or minor are eligible but they must have
    • completed freshman year of university or college;
    • GPA of 2.4 or higher;
    • at least one year of college Spanish or equivalent placement;
    • or native/heritage speaker fluency demonstrated via communication with program director. 

 


 

Application & Authorization:

Students must submit a program application and be formally accepted before being authorized to enroll. Students must be in good academic standing and adhere to IU’s official study abroad policies in addition to the specific course policies for good conduct and behavior.  These are discussed in class and presented for each student to sign a release forms for participation.   IU Overseas Application Form.
